Two hundred Albanian citizens stranded in a German airport have headed for Tirana, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEFA) said on Wednesday. MEFA announced that 200 Albanian passengers stranded at the Memmingen Airport after their travel was suspended without clear explanation, adding that none of them was allowed to depart for Tirana. “Representatives of the Albanian Consulate in Munich have stayed at the airport until the plane carrying 200 Albanian passengers departed from Memmingen to Tirana,” the statement said.
In another statement, MEFA informed Albanian nationals living in Sweden and Slovenia that all persons able to prove that they were unable to leave the countries due to the flights cancellation, or other reasons, may apply for an extension of stay, provided that this period does not exceed a 90-day period. MEFA announced this morning that Denmark has not granted the Albanian authorities’ request to allow the Albanian citizens, who are currently locked down in this country, to apply for an extension of stay, in view of the flights’ cancellation and closure of Schengen area.
