Albanian PM: Draft law on the legalization of cannabis is almost ready
In a press conference held on Saturday on the occasion of Europe Day, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the draft law on the legalization of cannabis for medical purposes was almost ready. According to Rama, the draft law was prepared by domestic and foreign experts working jointly, and it would be made public soon.
Rama said that the draft law in question draws on the experience of other countries that have walked earlier down this path. Asked by reporters to comment on the same issued, European Union Ambassador Luigi Soreca, who was holding the press conference jointly with Rama, clarified that the European Commission and the EU Delegation had not been involved in the preparation, drafting or consultation of draft reports concerning plans for cultivation and legalization of cannabis for medical purposes in Albania.
Rama’s announcement was hailed by the Chair of the Zgjidhja (Solution) Party, Koço Kokëdhima, who was the first to come up with this idea while serving as Socialist MP in the early years of the Rama government.
