Albania's COVID-19 update: 4090 total cases, 1667 active cases, 2311

On Sunday, the Ministry of Health and Social Care reported 82 new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Albania to 4,090, with 2,311 recoveries and 112 fatalities. 1,667 cases are still active in the country mainly in Tirana, Shkodra, Kruja, and Durres.

There are currently 123 patients hospitalized with the virus in the two COVID Hospitals, 17 of them being in intensive care, and 1 being intubated. 35,438 people have been tested since March. The Health Ministry announced on Sunday that the Technical Experts’ Committee has approved the protocols for the serological tests to be conducted by private laboratories, on condition they are certified by the National Medicines and Medical Equipment Agency.

In addition, the Ministry informed that a second lab specialized in conducting COVID-19 molecular tests had opened in the Mother Theresa University Hospital Complex.

The Democratic Party (DP) reiterated over the weekend its claims of the government has allegedly failed to manage the pandemic. DP official Bardh Spahia dispelled what he said was the government propaganda on a second COVID-19 lab opened by the health authorities, saying that the truth was that the testing kits were being allegedly rationed, as there was a shortage of them.

He also called for the Health Minister’s dismissal in view of what he said was “a horror video” published by Minister Ogerta Manastirliu on her Facebook page. The video carried footage taken within the COVID Hospital, showing the medical personnel’s efforts to save the patients’ lives and some of them who were apparently in a serious condition. He said that a patient who has never suffered from COVID-19 was shown on that video.
