Atlantic Council Official: Kosovo Agreement Could be Reached in the Next Couple of Months
Atlantic Council Executive Vice President Damon Wilson said that he believed Serbia would recognize the independence of Kosovo, but this would not happen “just like that”, but it must be a part of the package that would suit both Kosovo and Serbia.
Wilson said for Voice of America (VOA) on Friday that there was no some kind of “artificial deadline”, but this should happen as soon as possible, considering that the worldwide economy was changing drastically and the Balkans, Kosovo, and Serbia could be left behind.
“This should be now, this should be in the next couple of months, it is time for these countries to be able to start planning their future, this is an obstacle for them – having no normalization between Kosovo and Serbia”.
He said that now there was a historical chance for the two sides to reach an agreement, with political leaders with a vision and coordinated support of USA and Europe, but he also added that it would be the best to resolve this issue before the next elections in the US.
