Dacic: It’s Not a Compromise that Serbia Recognizes Independence of

A compromise solution of the Kosovo issue cannot imply that Serbia recognizes Kosovo’s independence “throughout its territory,” Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic said on Monday.

“It is now crucial for us to find some compromise solution. This solution cannot be imposed, that Serbia must recognize Kosovo as an independent state throughout its territory. That cannot be a compromise,” Dacic told a joint press conference with his Norwegian counterpart Ine Eriksen Soreide.

“It is crucial for us to find a compromise solution that cannot be imposed,” he added.

Serbia does not set any obstacles to resuming the dialogue with Pristina, but only requires the abolition of the 100% tariffs on imports of goods from Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, he also said.

Commenting on a possibility to include only the United States in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina except for the EU, Dacic said that this is not realistic.

“For the time being, there is no announcement of any change in the format [of the dialogue], and it is not envisaged to include other countries in the dialogue. It is unlikely that the US be included only, not someone else, that is not realistic,” he said.

The attitude of Belgrade for a long time has been that in the case of the involvement of the US in the mediation, there should be room for Russia and China in it as well.
