DP Chair Lulzim Basha lauds German MEP’s proposal for conditional

Democratic Party Chair Lulzim Basha published over Facebook on Wednesday the recent remarks of the Chair of European Parliament’s Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET), MEP David McAllister (who is also the European People’s Party Deputy President), recommending the European Union (EU) member states adopt the way delineated by the German Bundestag’s resolution for launching accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania.

According to McAllister, the membership talks with North Macedonia should start immediately and those with Albania upon the meeting of the implementation of the Bundestag’s conditions. Basha said that the conditional launching of membership talks with Albania were in the country’s interest as they would lead to an increased oversight on the EU’s part to cut off politics’ ties with crime, guarantee free and fair elections, equality before the law and the brining to an end of impunity for public officials.

“The only way ahead for us is to meet the conditions set forth by the German Bundestag. The Bundestag’s nine conditions are the roadmap for solving the political crisis and Albania’s rapprochement with the EU. Our gratitude goes to our political family, the European People’s Party for their support to Albania and the Albanian people,” Basha wrote on his Facebook page.
