DP to hold next major anti-government protest on 21 June

The Democratic Party’s (DP) leading forums decided on Friday that the next major anti-government protest would be held on 21 June at 8 p.m. Basha met earlier on the same day with junior allies, in order to discuss the next steps in the opposition’s political action.

The junior allies told Basha they supported the continuation of protests in an effort to oust the Rama government and enable the establishment of a transitional cabinet in charge of holding early elections. DP General Secretary Gazmend Bardhi invited the Albanian citizens on Saturday to participate en masse at the 21 June protest, saying that “Rama’s vote-stealing, criminal and oligarchs’ regime” was responsible for the forthcoming Brussels’ decision to postpone the launching of European Union-Albania accession negotiations.

Inviting the citizens to attend the 21 June protest over Facebook, DP Chair Lulzim Basha told Prime Minister, Rama, he had bad news for him: “Regardless of your threats that the country will be burned by the opposition, Albania will not be burned and the opposition will not be scared. Nothing bad will happen: Only Edi Rama will be ousted and he will be followed suit by his corrupt and crime-tied mercenaries.”
