Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia, at the same time Minister of the Interior, Ivica Dacic, has said that Serbia will continue joint projects with China, as well as cooperation in fighting transnational crime.
Speaking at a Global Forum for Cooperation in the field of public security, held in Lianjungang, Dacic said that Serbia is working to improve international cooperation and to create a safe environment for citizens and economic issues.
"Serbia and China are connected by mutual trust in matters of high strategic interest for both countries", said Dacic.
The government of Serbia has quoted Dacic as saying that the conference in China is a signal that China is ready to assume the role of one of the world leaders in the field of security.
"We are determined to fully contribute to the stability of the region and the world. We want to be part of the solution and participate in solidarity".
Serbia has strengthened ties with China since Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić came to power.
The Chinese President, Xi Jinping, visited Belgrade in May, on the 25th anniversary of the NATO bombing of the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade, thus marking the second visit in 10 years.
China and Serbia, which has been a candidate country for membership in the European Union for more than a decade, signed a declaration of strategic partnership between the two countries in 2016.
Seven years later, Beijing and Belgrade have signed a free trade agreement.
In recent years, China has made many investments in Serbia.
Among other things, China has also built the Pupin bridge in Belgrade, as part of an international highway, as well as rebuilt a thermal power plant in Serbia./ REL
