The United States was "not involved" in the series of bombings in Lebanon and had "no prior knowledge" of any attacks, a State Department spokesman said, according to CNN.

"The United States was not aware of this explosion in advance and we are gathering information at this time," said State Department spokesman Matthew Miller, who repeatedly referred to the incident as an "incident" rather than an "attack." .
