France, ex-husband kills wife and then himself in court

A man killed himself and his wife outside a court in the south of France yesterday over a property dispute that led to his ex-husband shooting the 66-year-old and then himself.

"A 66-year-old woman was attacked by a 72-year-old man who was waiting for her outside the court. As she approached, he walked towards her, gun in hand, and shot her in the head at close range. Immediately a pool of blood was created and the passers-by started screaming, before the man turned the gun away from himself and shot ," a witness told the local media.

Fabrice Belargent, Montpellier's public prosecutor, confirmed that the couple had divorced in 2016, and had a meeting at 2pm in court to discuss the division of their assets. It was reported that the man had precedents of physical attacks on the woman while they were married, but there were no proceedings in progress or a protection order against him.
