The well-known Italian journalist, Piero Angela, has passed away.

Italian media reports that the news of Angela's death was given by his son, Alberto, through a post on Facebook. "Have a good trip dad," wrote Alberto.

Piero Angela, born in Turin on 22 December 1928, was an Italian science writer, journalist, television presenter and essayist.

Known above all as the creator and presenter of Anglo-Saxon style broadcasts, with which he gave life to a documentary stream of Italian television, and for his scientific journalism also expressed in numerous non-scientific publications.

He started his career as a radio reporter, later became a correspondent and then settled in as the host of the news program Rai. In November 2017, the University of Messina awarded him an honorary doctorate in Applied Biology and Experimental Medicine.
