After the US decision, the Kremlin reacts: American long-range missiles will

Long-range missiles to be included in the next US military package for Ukraine will "escalate" the conflict, the Kremlin has said.

The aid, worth $2.2 billion, is said to contain missiles with a range of up to 94 miles (150 km) for the first time.

Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that the US had also destroyed the legal basis for the New START nuclear arms control treaty between the countries, but he added that the agreement remains "very important" for Russia.

The treaty, which entered into force in 2011 and was renewed in 2021, limits the number of strategic nuclear warheads and their delivery vehicles that both countries can deploy.

It is not linked to the war in Ukraine, but Russia has refused to allow the US to carry out inspections on its territory amid rising tensions between the countries.

Peskov continued to welcome a Russian company's offer to pay five million rubles (£58,000) to the first soldiers to destroy or capture the US-made Abrams or German Leopard 2 tanks recently pledged by Ukraine's allies.
