Lord Robert Fellowes, the uncle of Prince William and Prince Harry and one of the key figures of the British Royal Family for decades, passed away in July 2024 at the age of 82. He was Queen Elizabeth II's private secretary during 1990–1999 and then remained attached to the monarchy as an additional knight to the Queen until 2022.

Recently, his will has been made public, which has drawn attention to an unexpected decision: Princes William and Harry have not been included as beneficiaries. According to court documents, his estate, estimated at around 1.75 million euros, has been left entirely to his wife, Baroness Jane Fellowes. The will, drafted in June 2012 and approved for execution in mid-May 2025 by the Supreme Court, also contains a clause requiring the estate to be used for the family's "progress and overall benefit". This clause includes the couple's three children, Alexander, Laura and Eleanor, who along with Baroness Jane have been appointed as executors of the estate.

In addition to close family members, several friends and institutions have benefited from Lord Fellowes' estate. Andrew Grange has received a symbolic sum of €1,170, while several organisations have benefited from heritage funding, including the Tapping House hospice in West Snettisham, the Rhodes Trust, St Mary's Church and Eton College.

The absence of Prince William and Prince Harry in the will has not been officially explained, but the decision not to include them may be related to the private nature of the inheritance and the focus on his direct descendants. However, this detail has sparked discussions in the British media due to the close connection Lord Fellowes had with Princess Diana, the sister of his wife, Baroness Jane Fellowes.

The Lord Fellowes' will reinforces the idea of a traditional, close-family-centred approach while honoring personal and institutional connections through thoughtful donations.
