Injuries reported in drone strike in Russia

Two residential buildings were hit by drones in the town of Kotovsk in the Tambov region in western Russia. Several people were injured as a result, the region’s governor, Evgeny Pervyshov, said on Saturday morning. Pervyshov said on Telegram that several people suffered injuries from glass fragments and were being treated. He added that the buildings hit were not engulfed in flames and suffered only minor damage.

Video and photos of the incident, which have not been verified by Radio Free Europe (RFE/RL), were posted online by local residents, who said no attack sirens were heard before the drones struck. The Russian news agency, TASS, said the drones were launched from Ukraine, but the Ukrainian General Staff has not reported any drone strikes in Russian regions.

TASS added that authorities in other parts of Russia and in Russian-occupied Crimea also reported attacks by Ukrainian drones on the night of January 10-11, including in the Krasnodar Krai region, east of Crimea. Explosions were also heard in Russia's Kursk and Voronezh regions. Voronezh Governor Alexander Gusev said more than 15 drones were shot down overnight on January 10-11. He said there were no casualties or damage.

Witnesses also reported seeing a fire in the area of the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, and the bridge connecting Russia with Crimea was closed for more than three hours. Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said several drones were destroyed in the Kursk region. He said on Telegram that there were no casualties, but three private homes were damaged. Governors of other regions that were attacked by drones have not commented on the damage or casualties. Russia's Defense Ministry has also not yet reported the downing of drones.

Russia on January 10 accused Ukraine of carrying out a deadly rocket attack on a supermarket in the Moscow-controlled city of Donetsk. The Russian state news agency RIA said investigators were looking into the supermarket attack, claiming that a US-supplied HIMARS rocket hit the supermarket, killing two people. A video on social media, which was verified by REL, shows a massive explosion in an area where a small market is located. Ukrainian officials have not commented on the Russian accusation./REL
