Rutte: US attacks on Iran 'did not violate international law'

NATO assesses that the United States' military operations against Iran do not contradict established norms of international jurisprudence, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said at a press conference on the eve of the alliance's summit, Sky News reports.

As Rutte pointed out, he is concerned that Iran has nuclear weapons in its possession and has the means to use them.

On the morning of June 13, Israel carried out airstrikes against Iran. The attacks killed many senior military officials, including Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces; Hossein Salami, Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC); and Gholam Ali Rashid, head of the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters, along with nine nuclear scientists and other senior figures.

That same evening, Iran launched a retaliatory strike dubbed "Operation True Promise III," firing hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones at multiple targets across Israel, including Tel Aviv. The attacks caused civilian casualties and extensive damage.

It is worth noting that the US carried out airstrikes targeting three nuclear facilities in Iran on June 22, causing significant damage.

"We have completed our very successful attack on three nuclear facilities in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz and Esfahan. All aircraft are now out of Iranian airspace. A full load of BOMBS was dropped on the main location, Fordow. All aircraft are safely on their way home," US President Donald Trump wrote on the Truth Social network.
