Trump arrives at the Rotunda to take the oath of office

President-elect Donald Trump has arrived at the Capitol Rotunda for his inauguration ceremony.

Shortly, he will be sworn in as the 47th president of the United States, writes CNN

His wife, the current president and vice president, and the soon-to-be vice president all entered before him.

What happens next?

Newly elected Vice President JD Vance shook hands with President Joe Biden as he headed to his seat.

He is expected to take the first oath of office. Trump will follow and then deliver the inaugural address.

The theme of the speech will be "restoring faith" in America, according to a White House official.

"I return to the presidency confident and optimistic that we are at the beginning of an exciting new era of national success. A wave of change is sweeping the country," Trump will say, according to an excerpt of prepared remarks.

After Trump delivers his inaugural address, he will bid farewell to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. He will then tour the packed hall.

Trump will attend a ceremony in the presidential signing room and then a luncheon.
