"I was freed by people with hammers," American missing for months found in Syria
An American man, held for months in a Syrian prison after entering the country on foot, has described being freed by 'people with hammers' as rebels overthrew Bashar al-Assad's regime.
The man - who was later identified as Travis Timmerman by BBC's US news partner CBS - was found by residents near the capital Damascus.
This comes as rebels say they aim to close Assad's harsh prisons and track down those involved in torturing or killing prisoners.
Speaking to CBS News, the American citizen said he was held in a Syrian prison for seven months after entering the country without permission.
"I was never beaten. The only really bad part was that I couldn't go to the bathroom when I wanted. They only let me out three times a day to go to the bathroom," he said.
