Zelensky says 31,000 troops killed since full invasion of Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed during the war in Ukraine. Zelensky did not give a number of the injured as he said it would help

The Ukrainian president said he would not give the number of wounded as it would help Russian military planning.

"31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died in this war. Not 300,000 or 150,000, or whatever Putin and his circle of liars say. But each of these losses is a great loss for us."

Speaking about losses in the war, Zelensky said tens of thousands of civilians had died in Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine, but the true number was unknown.

Germany warned in November that a European Union (EU) plan to deliver one million artillery shells by March would not be met.

In January, the EU said that just over half of them would reach Ukraine by the deadline and that the promised amount would not be until the end of 2024.

President Zelensky said one of the reasons why Ukraine's long-awaited counteroffensive last year did not start sooner was a lack of weapons.
