Investigation of senior officials and organized crime, Gjonaj: SPAK has opportunities to investigate major issues
The Minister of Justice Etilda Gjonaj spoke about the Justice Reform and underlined that SPAK has taken positive steps on issues related to corruption or organized crime.
As a concrete step, the minister described the reopening of some old files. She added that SPAK is now ready to deal with important issues, arguing that its financial and infrastructural needs have been met.
He also added that with some legal changes adopted some time ago, the SPAK has been given the opportunity to focus on the investigation of senior officials and organized crime.
"But I believe that in addition to this case there have been many other cases which have been made public that SPAK has started the investigation and in the meantime has taken measures for certain issues and I believe that SPAK beyond the very high expectations that people have, beyond the expectation has shown concrete steps and I believe has taken positive steps in investigating issues related to corruption or organized crime.
SPAK today has all the possibilities of the legal framework even with some changes that were approved at the end of May where it was left with all the opportunity to focus on major issues of corruption of senior officials as well as organized crime.
We have seen a number of old issues which have been reopened. On the other hand, SPAK has had an extraordinary support from the government, both for the financial part, for the infrastructure part " , said Gjonaj.
The latter told "This Week" that the challenge for justice institutions is vacancies. Gjonaj added that the concern is greater in the Courts of Appeal.
