The Greek ethnic minority in Albania and members of the Albanian community in Greece act as a bridge of cooperation between the two countries, President Katerina Sakellaropoulou told Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on Tuesday.
Receiving the Albanian Prime Minister at the Presidential Palace in Athens, Sakellaropoulou underlined the importance of cooperation for solving open issues, including the issue of maritime areas, based on international law and good neighborly relations, etc., writes Kathimerini .
She also noted that Greece remains a stable supporter of the European perspective of the Western Balkans, expressing her certainty that Albania will quickly fulfill the requirements necessary to become a full member of the EU.
For his part, Rama said that Greece is an example for everyone in the region and an advocate of the Western Balkans in the EU. He expressed his satisfaction for the friendly relations between the two peoples, adding that the agreement to go to The Hague for the definition of maritime zones proves the will of Albania and Greece to resolve bilateral issues.
He agreed with the President about the importance of the Greek ethnic minority in Albania and the Albanian community in Greece, stressing that the strong ties between the two countries are also due to them.
Finally, Rama expressed his condolences for the tragic train accident in Tempi.
