Rama "washes his hands" of toxic waste: Others are to blame, not the government
Prime Minister Edi Rama, in his answer during the interpellation requested by the opposition regarding the toxic waste in Durrës, has denied any involvement of the government in the scandal, passing the responsibility to the exporters and importers.
He emphasized that, according to international conventions, the declaration of cargo as dangerous goods or waste is the responsibility of these entities and not of state institutions.
" These are clear duties of the production entities. The claim that public institutions have responsibility in this case is absurd ," declared the Prime Minister, avoiding the government's responsibility for the crisis that has disturbed public opinion.
According to him, even in case of fraud by exporters, it is the law enforcement bodies that should intervene, while he confirmed the unconditional support to the institutions of justice.
" It is unacceptable that the Prime Minister of the country hides the truth and does not take any responsibility for this environmental disaster. Why have no analyzes been carried out by independent parties and why is there no official statement from the authorities? " said the opposition MPs, demanding thorough investigation and punishment of those responsible.
In an attempt to justify the situation, the Prime Minister stated that no port in the world analyzes every cargo, adding that the host country has not conducted any analysis for toxic waste, despite claims of objections.
Meanwhile, the opposition has warned that it will continue the pressure for a full investigation and demands that those responsible be held responsible for this issue that directly affects the safety and health of citizens.
