Berisha's political persecution, Paloka: IPU requested a mission, Spiropali does not respond

Berisha's political persecution, Paloka: IPU requested a mission, Spiropali

Democratic Party MP Edi Paloka, in a statement to the media, said that the Albanian Parliament is not responding to the request of the Inter-Parliamentary Union for a fact-finding mission on the issue of the persecution of opposition leader Sali Berisha.

Paloka stated that the Inter-Parliamentary Union has asked the Speaker of the Assembly to accept a fact-finding mission on the issue of Berisha's persecution, but after more than two months, Spiropali has not even deigned to respond.

"Since October 30 of last year, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the largest international organization represented by 181 Parliaments from all over the world, has, through its Secretary General, asked the Speaker of the Albanian Parliament to accept a fact-finding mission on the issue of the persecution of opposition leader Sali Berisha! After more than two months, the Speaker of the Albanian Parliament has not even deigned to respond to the Secretary General of the IPU, who is also the highest official of the Union! It is clear that we are dealing with a political stance ordered by Edvin Rama, the author and executor of the political persecution of Sali Berisha! The Speaker of the Parliament would not dare to take such a stance towards the world's largest Parliamentary Organization without being ordered by her political boss.

As a member of the Albanian delegation to the IPU, I, along with other members of the delegation, have been summoned to question sessions by the Committee on Human Rights for Parliamentarians in the Inter-Parliamentary Union! This committee examines with priority precisely the violation and serious abuse of the rights of female parliamentarians in all countries of the world! As an implementation of these duties and powers, the Committee has also taken into consideration the issue of flagrant violation and political persecution of the Albanian opposition leader Sali Berisha! In this context, the Committee on Human Rights for Parliamentarians has informed the Executive Committee, the highest executive body of the IPU, regarding the issue of Sali Berisha and the Executive Committee has decided to send a mission to Albania on this issue. The Secretary General of the IPU himself has sent his formal request to Elisa Spiropali who, as I said above, seems to have received orders to ignore this request!

As a member of the Albanian delegation to the IPU, I would like to inform you that this is the first time in so many years that the IPU has been forced to examine a matter involving serious violations and abuses of the rights of members of a European Parliament. Apart from a few cases in Russia and Turkey, which are not candidate countries for the EU, all other cases of violations of the rights of members of Parliament have been in African countries!

After successive resolutions by the EPP, IDU and ICD which strongly condemn Rama's drug regime and give full support to the Albanian opposition and its leader Sali Berisha in their efforts to overthrow the regime and restore democracy in Albania, the examination of human rights violations by a global organization like the IPU is a blow that Rama is trying to avoid and hide from public opinion.

"Having been accustomed for years to buying influence and support from the McGonigals around the world, now that he has been unmasked and targeted by the most important international institutions, the head of the drug regime is trying to hide and evade. Desperate efforts because the bells have already rung for him in Albania and abroad!" declared Paloka.
