The stalking phenomenon is turning into a strong social alarm, as more and more women and girls decide to break the silence and denounce the stalkers.

In recent days, the police arrested, in Durrës and Kurbin, two people who were also found with firearms in their homes, highlighting the danger that victims face in real life, including stalking on social networks.

On Saturday, the court of Durrës ordered a "prison arrest" measure for a 47-year-old man, who was arrested after months of stalking a 29-year-old woman only because she decided to end the intimate relationship she had with him.

Also, in Kurbin, a 33-year-old man was arrested for stalking a young woman from Durrës through social networks. Stalking is a criminal offense punishable by imprisonment, as the psychological consequences for the survivors are severe.

During the last two years, 28 denunciations with 29 perpetrators have been registered in Durrës, of which 18 denunciations this year alone.

The referral mechanism and the centers that provide services to the injured exist, but still few of them require the help of specialists.

This year, the police have handcuffed 14 people and announced the search for 3 others accused of stalking, but arresting and punishing the culprits is not enough, according to specialists who insist on the necessity of psychological support for the injured./Tch
