80 new cases of HIV-AIDS have been identified in Albania during 2022

On World AIDS Day, doctors appealed for increased awareness of rapid testing so that HIV AIDS treatment can be started as soon as possible.

Regarding the HIV infection data in Albania, our country is a country with a low incidence of the spread of this infection.

According to the data of the Institute of Public Health, during 2022, 80 new cases of HIV-AIDS have been identified. During this year, the highest number of diagnosed cases belongs to the male gender, where out of 80 cases, 61 are male.

According to the data, infection with the HIV virus through unprotected sexual intercourse is the main mode of transmission; 96% of diagnosed cases belong to this method.

For all people living with HIV, treatment is provided free of charge by the state.

Currently, 792 people receive ARV treatment, of which 780 are adults and 12 are children.
