9 water supply systems in Tepelena and Memaliaj part of the energy efficiency

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energÿ, through the Agencÿ for Energy Efficiencÿ, in the framework of supporting investments for the improvement of energy efficiency, is investing in 9 of the water supply systems in the Municipalities of Tepelena and Memaliaj. This investment focuses on increasing the quality of drinking water supply for residents of these areas, but at the same time reducing energy consumption by 50% for these enterprises.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Energÿ, Belinda Balluku, together with the Director of the Agency for Energy Efficiency, Eltar Deda, were in Memaliaj where they closely followed the implementation of this project in one of these water supply systems.

"We have implemented three elements of energy efficiency. First, power supply through photovoltaic elements. Second, by changing the whole pumping system and placing pumps within the criteria of the European Union. Thirdly, the installation of the SCADA program also increases the efficiency of the operation of these pumps and the water supply system ", explained director Deda.

Minister Balluku stressed that these projects, with a positive impact not only on citizens, but also on the performance of water companies will be extended to other municipalities in the country.

" For us it is very important the integration of these projects, such as the case of water supply and energy efficiency, ie the Agency and AKUM. Of course it is for the good and benefit of the citizens first of all. All the processes where they improve, be it in terms of technology, as is the case of pumps, be it in terms of operating costs, as is the case of solar panels, the first beneficiary is undoubtedly the citizen. The citizen is the one who receives better service, more tap water, better quality and obviously then start a series of benefits that the municipality and the Agency have ", underlined Balluku.

Energy efficiency, stressed the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, is as important as energy production, adding that during the third term of government are planned a number of important projects in the energy sector, which aim to turn Albania into a country electricity exporters.

The Energy Efficiency Agency has launched the implementation of pilot projects aimed at extending investments in three sectors, namely housing, transport and industry.
