Afghans remain in Albania, Trump cancels their American dream

The new US President Donald Trump has decided with a special decree to leave 700 Afghan refugees in Albania by canceling their travel plans to the US.

Thousands of Afghan refugees who had fled fearing retribution from the Taliban were waiting for a long four-year process to start a new life in the promised land, but Trump's coming to power appears to have dashed their dreams.

Afghan citizens who have taken refuge in Albania at the request of the former Biden administration and the decision of the Albanian government, after the departure of the Americans from Afghanistan and the takeover of power by the Taliban, have taken refuge in residential areas in Durrës and Shëngjin.

The previous Joe Biden administration had promised them that they would live in the US as part of a humanitarian program after the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan in 2021.

Many American war veterans have tried for years to help Afghans they worked with find refuge in the US.

Trump's order signed on Monday has been passed on to the State Department, now headed by Marco Rubio, to halt all data processing and travel of Afghans to the US./Klan News/
