The appeal sentenced him to 2 years, Beleri reacts: I started the appeal

The reaction of Fredi Beleri comes after the GJKKO Appeal decided 2 years in prison for the elected mayor of Himara, leaving in effect the previous decision declaring him guilty of buying votes in the elections of May 14, 2023.

Beleri reacts by calling the decision a coup d'état and emphasizes that he has started appeal procedures at the European Court of Justice in Strasbourg.

Full reaction:

The decision of the Court of Appeal was expected, since the coup against me was planned at every step by the Albanian Prime Minister himself.

However, one thing is certain: a travesty of justice with a prosecution witness who confessed to being paid by the Albanian police to testify falsely, a court barred from entering Greece due to falsification of documents and an appointed and not recalled president of the Court of Kosovo. The appeal does not end there. I have already started the appeal procedures at the European Court of Justice in Strasbourg and I am confident that the justice that was not done by the Rama regime will be done there.

With my conviction, Edi Rama achieved his goal of not taking office as the elected mayor of Heimarra Municipality, in order to realize his plans and seize the properties of the Greeks in the area.

Unfortunately for him and fortunately for Northern Hellenism, my presence in the European Parliament - thanks to the determination of Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the support of the Greek people - guarantees that the fight for democracy and the rule of law will continue.

Those who harbored illusions that Rama will act as the leader of a country that wants to join the European family and not as another authoritarian leader, have been rejected.

As for me, my position is clear. As I did not bend in the last 14 months, I will not bend now, in the remaining 3-4 months. The problem from now on will be Edi Rama, not me.

In the end, light always wins over darkness.

Beleri, who was also elected as an MEP a few weeks ago under the logo of the Greek party "New Democracy", will remain in prison until October, after the decision of the Court of Appeal of the Special Court Against Corruption in Albania, which tried his case in second degree in Tirana. The court decided to uphold the original sentence of 24 months. Therefore, Beleri will not go to Strasbourg in July to take the oath. He was convicted in both the first and second degree of active corruption. If the appeal decision reduces his sentence to 20 months or less, then he would be released immediately.
