The US Department of State has announced new sanctions aimed at eradicating corruption in the Western Balkans.
DASH spokesman Ned Price said at a press conference that sanctions are an important tool to do this.
“One of our goals when it comes to the Western Balkans is to work with the governments and work with the people of the region to target, remove and root out corruption. And sanctions are an important tool to do this.
We announced and Treasury announced sanctions this morning against a state attorney general who was involved in acts of corruption. We have provided information in that statement. Treasury may have additional information about the basis for that determination.
And sanctions will remain an important tool – an important tool, not the only important tool, but an important tool – when it comes to the region and when it comes to our purpose, the purpose that we share with the governments and the people in the region of rooting out corruption ," he said.
