"Boys in emigration, girls in the auditorium"/ INSTAT: 90% of students

Although the ratio of students enrolling in bachelor's degree cycles is constantly decreasing year after year, a notable phenomenon is the increase in the percentage of girls graduating from the University of Tirana, according to INSTAT data.

From 73% of girls graduating in 2017, this ratio has reached 83% within a 7-year period. While the ratio for boys has followed the opposite trajectory.

"This change occurred mainly because many boys, after enrolling in school, decide at a certain point to discontinue their studies and seek opportunities to emigrate. This has led to the classrooms being filled with girls year after year," says Erisa Dhamo, a sociologist.

Another interesting data from INSTAT is that two faculties of the University of Tirana have a high ratio of female presence in the classrooms. The Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Social Sciences have 86% and 90% female enrollments, respectively./SCAN
