Prime Minister Edi Rama announced the possibility of shutting down TikTok in Albania, setting a deadline of the end of January.

However, the end of the month is approaching and the platform is still operational.

Technology experts, Arbër Ormeni, Mateo Doda and Kejsi Voskopi from MCN, analyzed the reasons why this platform will not be closed, emphasizing that the most likely outcome under an agreement is for the company to change its user policies in Albania, including age verification and the removal of fake profiles.

Arbër Ormeni:
As the Prime Minister said, if he were to close it, he would close it for a year.

But earlier he made this decision without consulting the company, while now there have been consultations and the requirements are very simple to implement, such as verifying fake profiles and the age of users, since most of them are very young.

I think Rama has found a solution with TikTok and I don't believe it will be closed. Also, it is difficult for Albania to have influence on such a global company.
Kejsi Voskopi:
I think closing TikTok is difficult, even powerful countries like America have had problems with this platform.

If it were to be closed, I think it would be more reasonable to find a compromise.

The Albanian government can put forward its demands and TikTok can make some concessions, such as age verification and preventing negative phenomena such as bullying.

Even if it is closed, users will move to other platforms, which will create the same problems.
Mateo Doda:
The debate about closing TikTok has been one of the hottest in recent weeks.

The recent meeting between the prime minister and TikTok's representative for Europe did not reveal any concrete details, but the possibility of changing TikTok's policies in Albania was discussed.

According to the French news agency, this could lead to an agreement where the company would provide age verification and could also have regulators for content that appears in Albania.
