Enver Hoxhaj in 'Politiko': EU summit decided the tyranny of the status quo, the European Union has no vision
The Deputy Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, former Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj commented on the EU summit held the day before in Brussels, where Albania and Northern Macedonia received another 'NO' on the road to membership in the European Union.
In an interview on Top News show 'Politiko', Hoxhaj said that yesterday's summit was a disappointment that established the status quo tyranny.
He also commented on Bulgaria's decision to lift its veto on northern Macedonia.
"It is a turning point in relation not only to the future of RMV, but also to overcome the status quo in the Balkans, now it depends on how the EU will behave in relation to the Balkans. Yesterday’s summit was the summit of disappointment. The EU summit established the tyranny of the status quo.
The Bulgarian attitude was a surprise. In Bulgaria the political culture has changed, the current president pursued pro-Russian policy, unlike the prime minister, or the former president.
This change in political culture has taken a new approach in relation to Skopje. There were Russian attempts to overthrow Zaev in 2018, the Russian hybrid war in the Balkans, among other things, functioned by overthrowing the government with the parliamentary vote, has done it several times in the Balkan countries.
The EU has no vision, no leadership. It does not have the impact it once had on other continents. "There may be trade cooperation, or a role in media freedoms, but at the end of the day the EU has an area where the influence is great and it is the Western Balkans" , said Hoxhaj.
