The issue of the sea with Greece, the former head of the Constitutional Court against: The border line comes before Saranda

The issue of the sea with Greece, the former head of the Constitutional Court

The former president of the Constitutional Court, Xhezair Zaganjori, has expressed his opposition to sending the issue of the sea with Greece to The Hague.

Speaking at a meeting at "Aleksandër Moisiu" University in Durrës together with a group of researchers, he calls on the Albanian and Greek governments to renegotiate the agreement on maritime borders and emphasizes that the new Albania-Greece agreement must refer to the decision of 14 years ago.

" Practically, the court comes to the conclusion that we are not dealing with the continental shelf. It has its title on the division of the continental shelf, at a time when more than 150 circles have been used to define the sea line, 140 are territorial waters.

It cannot be said absolutely, because this helped the Constitutional Court to highlight a very important fact because the decision of the Conference of Ambassadors on the southern borders is practically rejected. This also spoils the reports. If Saranda Bay is taken as the base line, it will come before Saranda as the border line ," he explained.

In the absence of a new agreement, researchers suggest that the two countries resume negotiations that have been suspended since 2018.
