Journalist publishes figures: 39 thousand Albanians left the country in 19

Journalist Neritan Sejamini has published on A2 CNN figures on the trend of Albanians fleeing to European countries.

According to him, in less than two years since the launch of the 2023 Census, our country lost 39,000 inhabitants, marking one of the highest population declines in the world.

"On January 1, 2025, about 2 million 366 thousand citizens lived in Albania. More than a year ago, in October 2023, when the population census was conducted, Albania had 2 million 402 thousand inhabitants. Which means that in 14 months, from October 2023 to January 2025, the country's population decreased by about 39 thousand inhabitants. In other words, in 14 months, the population decreased by about 1.6%. This is one of the highest annual population declines in the world. Moreover, this decline continues the trend of the country's population decline that began in 1991 ," Sejamini revealed in "Thjesht".

During the first population census in 1923, the Albanian family consisted of an average of approximately 5.7 inhabitants, but this number dropped drastically after the collapse of the communist regime.

Figures presented in "Thjesht" show that in 2023 the average Albanian family had only 3.2 members and about 29% of all families in the country had only two members, mainly a couple without children.
