The Special Court postpones the session on the Tirana incinerator, SPAK prosecutor is absent

The Special Court postpones the session on the Tirana incinerator, SPAK

The Special Court has postponed the scheduled session for the substantive examination of the Tirana incinerator case, which was scheduled to be held today. The reason for the postponement was the absence of SPAK prosecutor Dritan Prençi, who is abroad for official engagements.

The next session is set to take place on January 31st.

Twelve people have been named as defendants in this case, with three of them – Silena Tola, Alba Thoma and Pëllumb Abeshi – requesting a summary trial. Meanwhile, the other defendants, including former Environment Minister Lefter Koka and several other former officials such as Erjon Murataj, Bledar Karoli, and Taulant Tusha, will continue with the usual procedures.

Lefter Koka is the most senior figure facing justice in this case. He has previously been convicted for the Fier and Elbasan incinerators. While the case of the former Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment, Alqi Bllako, has been separated and is being handled separately.

On the other hand, the two businessmen involved, Klodian Zoto and Mirel Mërtiri, remain at large.

The opposition has accused SPAK of lacking depth in the investigations, claiming that other highly influential individuals such as the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, the Secretary General of the Council of Ministers, Engjëll Agaçi, and Prime Minister Edi Rama were not included.
