The American envoy for the Western Balkans, Alexander Kasanof, started a two-day visit to Kosovo today.
Today he had a meeting with President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti, while he is expected to meet with other leaders of institutions and political parties in the country.
In a press release from the presidency of Kosovo, it is said that the meeting discussed the strengthening of the alliance with the United States and the importance of close cooperation in order to fulfill common strategic goals.
In the communique, President Vjosa Osmani is quoted as having "stated the need for strategic dialogue with the United States" as well as Kosovo's membership in NATO, "which strengthens the security of the country but also the stability of the region".
This is Kasanof's first visit to the region since his appointment to this post. In a post on social networks, American Ambassador Jeff Hovenier said that during the meetings, American support for the people of Kosovo will be emphasized, addressing common concerns and seeking progress on the European path of Kosovo as a sovereign, independent and multi-ethnic state.
