Confindustria worried about the price of fuel in Albania: In neighboring

Confindustria, taking cause from the strong historical drop during the last 2 months in the price of fuel in the world markets and the devaluation of the USD dollar against the Lek, expresses concern about the continuation of the rather high prices of fuel in the Albanian market.

The complete lack of regulatory interventions by responsible public agencies such as the Competition Authority and the executive is quite disturbing. The price of fuel in the world markets is at the lowest historical levels in recent years. In the first week of September 2024, the oil price has dropped to $70/barrel. Also, the US dollar has been significantly devalued against the national currency Lek, selling below 90 Lek/$.

In neighboring countries such as Kosovo, North Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, etc. The drop in fuel prices on the world market has been directly reflected. The product "diesel" in the markets of the above states is traded in the range of 1.1-1.2 euros/liter. Meanwhile, in the Albanian market it costs over 1.7-1.8 euros.

Considering the fiscal burden, "diesel" in the Albanian market is 25-30 lek/liter more expensive than the countries of the region. The same conclusion is similar for other types of fuels.
