Archbishop Anastasios Yanullatos in critical condition, doctors continue efforts

The health condition of the Archbishop of Albania, Anastas Janullatos, continues to remain critical, as he is on the 11th day of hospitalization at the "Evangelismos" hospital in Athens.

According to Greek media, doctors have been trying to wake him from intubation since this morning, but the process remains delicate and depends on his response to treatments. If the awakening is successful, the second phase will focus on removing him from intubation, a process that will be supervised by the team led by Professor Anastasia Kotanidou.

The Archbishop, who is 95 years old, suffered a gastric bleed, which was treated through emergency surgery. The health problems began with a seasonal virus, which then turned into a serious infection, causing further complications.

Since December 30, Janullatos had been hospitalized in a clinic in Tirana, but due to the deterioration of his condition, he was transferred to Athens by Albanian Air Force plane on January 5.

Family members, the Orthodox Church, and believers continue to pray for his health, while religious institutions in Albania have expressed solidarity and support in these difficult moments for the Archbishop.
