The Assembly has elected with 100 votes in favor Evgjeni Bashari as the new head of the High Inspectorate of declaration of assets and conflict of interest.

She will be in charge of the institution that will scan and investigate the assets of politicians and senior officials for the next 7 years.

Evgjeni Bashari was running for the post of president of HIDAA against Helena Papa. Candidate Elena Papa received only 5 votes in favor.

Who is Evgjeni Bashari?

Evgjeni Bashari has previously held the position of Secretary General of HIDAA, and will replace Shkëlqim Ganaj in this position.

Bashari has worked for a long time in many international organizations. She has been an expert at the EURALIUS mission, which assists the justice system in Albania.

The Inspector General directs the High Inspectorate of Declaration and Control of Assets and Conflict of Interest to control the declaration and legitimacy of declared sources of assets and conflict of interest by entities provided by this law throughout the territory of the Republic of Albania.

He notifies, on a case by case basis, the President, the Assembly, the Council of Ministers, the Prime Minister, the Ministers, the High Judicial Council, the High Prosecution Council, the High Inspector of Justice, the General Prosecutor, the Head of the Special Prosecution, the Head of the National Bureau of the Investigation and the heads of the central institutions for the irregularities confirmed in the declaration of assets by the employees in their jurisdiction.

During the last session for this year, the Assembly approved the amendments to the Criminal Code with 91 votes in favor and 9 against.

She also elected Violeta Nikleka with 92 pro votes as a member of the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania.
