REL: Kosovo and Albanian authorities dismantle arms trafficking group

The Kosovo Special Prosecution Office announced that, in cooperation with the justice authorities in Albania, they have dismantled a criminal arms trafficking group that was active in both countries. After an investigation lasting over nine months, authorities have arrested 14 suspects.

Eight people have been arrested in Kosovo, six Kosovo citizens and two Albanian citizens, with the initials: VO, KK, SH, Sh.J., AH, ZA, AD, BA Six people have been arrested in Albania, with the initials EMEPAMG Ll. KM and T.Sh.

Authorities in both countries have said that the case is being investigated and all suspicions are open, including the possibility of arms trafficking for the international or domestic market, in Kosovo and Albania.

After conducting searches in nine locations, the Prosecutor's Office announced that 29 pistols, three long guns, 2,635 cartridges of various models, two vehicles and other equipment were found and seized in Kosovo. In Albania, 22 'Zoraki' firearms, one Ak 47 firearm, one offensive hand grenade and 470 cartridges of various types were found.

In a press conference, officials from the Kosovo Police and the Albanian State Police said that investigations into this case have been ongoing since April, after receiving information that several people were involved in the unauthorized import, export, supply, transportation, brokerage and sale of weapons or explosive materials.

The two countries have signed an agreement to create a joint investigative team, while the European Union Agency for the Rule of Law (EUROPOL) has also assisted in this operation, titled "Dismantling"./ REL
