The former mayor of Kukës, Safet Gjici, addressed the Court of Elbasan with the request to be released from prison for health reasons. The court session was adjourned until November 11, at 13:00, until the administration of the scientific evidence requested by the judge.

According to his lawyer, Markeljan Jançe, Gjic's health has deteriorated significantly due to an old illness, aggravated by stress and psychological pressure. The lawyer has requested a full evaluation from the Institute of Forensic Medicine to verify his condition.

Currently, Gjici continues his stay in a private hospital, where he is being treated for cardiovascular problems, enlarged aorta and severe diabetes. The judge requested that all medical documents, from the time of detention, be verified by experts and a detailed report be presented on the dynamics of his health condition and the serving of the sentence.
