SPAK reads the claim against Vangjush Dako, the former mayor does not

Court sessions have started in charge of Vangjush Dako and 3 other people.

In this session, the Prosecutor of SPAK, Sotir Kllapi, will present the claim against the former Mayor of Durrës, against whom the investigation started in 2020.

Dako was not present at the session, nor is he under "house arrest" security measure. Shyqyri Farruku and Ardian Bulku are also not present.

Dako is accused of having committed the criminal offense of "misuse of duty" in two cases. One case concerns the construction of a building in Durrës 11 years ago, which collapsed due to the earthquake in November 2019, and the other case concerns a tender for the construction of a promenade in 2014-2015, which has caused a damage of 18 million ALL to the state budget.

Vangjush Dako was arrested on June 6 of last year by order of the Special Prosecutor's Office on suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of "abuse of duty" carried out in cooperation, in two cases.

The first case is related to an object that, according to investigations, has built several floors without permission, legalized with procedures that are suspected to be irregular. The building suffered significant damage from the earthquake of November 26, 2019. After that, there was a complaint from the residents of this building. Dako is also accused of a tendering procedure, the value of which, according to investigations, was artificially inflated by the Durrës Municipality. The report of irregularities in this tender was made by the former head of the Democratic Party of Durres, Ferdinand Xhaferraj.

Vangjush Dako served 9 months of detention, as he left the cell on February 27, 2024 after the detention terms expired and he was placed under house arrest. It is worth emphasizing the fact that Vangjush Dako is a person declared "non grata" by the US State Department.

It is worth noting the fact that there is currently no person in prison for the Dako case. The last to be released was Fatmir Ejupi, Urban Planning employee in the Durrës Municipality, in exchange for a financial guarantee of 700,000 ALL.
