New school year with old problems, Civic Center: Tirana Municipality received 55

At the start of the new school year 2024-2025, the Civic Center has brought to attention the still unresolved issues of education in our country.

In a post on Facebook, the Civic Center first congratulates the students and teachers, as it points out how the Municipality of Tirana "swallowed" 55 million euros from the education tax to build 17 schools, but in fact only built 9 of them.

Qendresa recalls the PISA report where Albanian education results at the bottom of the table, starting from creative skills to exact sciences.

Post:

New school year with old problems, from shift teaching in Tirana to the 40% reduction in the number of students in schools in rural areas!

Today the new school year started and the Civic Center first of all wishes a good school year to all students and teachers.

But beyond this congratulation, the Civic Attitude assesses that education faces serious problems for which silence is not an alternative.

Although 5 years have passed since the devastating earthquake of November 26, the construction of many schools in the capital is at a standstill, and as a result, thousands of students in Tirana will continue to teach in two shifts.

This will undoubtedly affect the quality of teaching and learning as hours will be shortened and classes will be overcrowded.

Entire regions in Tirana, such as Astiri with 80 thousand inhabitants, or Selita and Lundra still do not have a public educational institution, as the Municipality of Tirana received 55 million euros from the education tax to build 17 schools, but built only 9 of them.

The number of students in schools in rural areas has been reduced by 40%, while in many remote areas in some schools there are more teachers than students.

In every PISA report, Albanian education results at the bottom of the table, starting from creative skills to the exact sciences, while in the same line are the reports for Universities, where Tirana's is among the last on the list for criteria such as scientific research, academic qualification and student outcomes.

The army of teachers is not represented in the unions and their rights are at the mercy of the directors, who value the party tessera more than the diploma.

Civic Attitude will be a strong voice in defense of teachers and denouncing the problems faced by Albanian education.
