VOA: Albanians value the elements that Albania needs most in the American elections
In Albania, citizens follow the campaign and presidential elections in the USA with interest, with the hope that many of their democratic elements can be implemented in their country. They think that the American elections are qualitatively much higher compared to the Albanian ones, where there are no televised debates between the candidates, where there are no reliable polls, nor accepted results.
Many citizens in Tirana have been impressed by the small differences in the latest polls of the support of the American public in the presidential elections, where both candidates Harris and Trump seem very close to victory, as the race continued until the last moment.
The mechanical engineering student, Martis Kenga, tells the Voice of America that the results may be close in these elections, but he emphasizes that the main thing for Albania is that even when the presidents in the USA are Democrats or Republicans, Albanian-American relations were, are and they will be great.
"The USA will always remain the closest, friendliest and dearest country to us. "Whoever wins the presidential elections, we will be on the path to European integration, and for this we will always have the greatest support from America," said Martis.
Citizens estimate that the American elections are much higher in quality compared to the Albanian ones. They count that, quite unlike the USA, in Albania's elections, the candidates do not hold televised debates, the polls are not reliable, the results are not accepted, while the loss is considered the result of manipulations, and all of this makes voters distrustful to the point of non-participation.
Youth rights activist Esmeralda Nexhipi, a final year law student, tells Voice of America that the American elections are also to be admired in terms of technology and the quick release of reliable results.
"The competition this time was very strong and at the end the two candidates shake hands. I wish that we also follow their example, to make peaceful elections like in the USA. Our elections are very close in the spring of 2025. So let us become like the USA, like our friends, like our main supporters", says Esmeralda.
As a professional of art design and virtual communication, Enes Petromilo describes the American campaign as very spectacular from the point of view of image and marketing, with the participation of prominent artists, but equally important in its interior as it belongs to the democratic messages they gave the two candidates.
"Especially from the point of view of the youth, the two candidates for president in the USA have given a very good message, that through voting you can make a difference in your country, so they should always be included in the elections, because their voice is very important for the future of the country", says Enesi for the Voice of America.
Albanian citizens appreciate in the American elections precisely those elements that they need most in Albania: such as the cultured approach between the competitors, the mutual respect between them, the exchange of views in the televised confrontations as well as the clear promises for the future of the country./ VOA
