Zingraf 'slaps' the government: Waste management not in accordance

The Ambassador of Germany in Albania, Peter Zingraff, has made it clear to Albania that its waste management legislation is not in full compliance with the directives of the European Union.

At the forum for Integrated Waste Management and Economy, he stated that as a candidate country, a national waste management strategy will be mandatory.

Emphasizing the need for leadership, Zingraf said that many services are for solid waste disposal, but recycling is not at the right levels.

"This is a process that needs leadership. We do not believe that we come to a position where we have achieved all this. We may be a little further away from you in terms of sharing, but the circular economy is a goal for our economy as well.

The current legislation is not fully compliant with the EU directive. These have been modified since 2018 in line with the new circular economy practices, but you do this for Albania, the waste is expensive. With the start of the negotiations for the entry into the EU, it will be mandatory for your road to Europe and a national strategy for the management of mixed waste. Germany highly appreciates that the integrated waste management sector is important to the government.

Many services are provided for solid waste disposal, but recycling is not covered. The recycling target is low and a goal, a goal, has not been defined, and this is what we want to achieve and we are on your side",  declared Zingraf.
