What's going on?

The youth and civic protests that have been taking place for more than a week in Tirana, other cities in the country and in the diaspora seem to have provoked strong reactions from exponents of the Socialist Party.

Its exponents, led by socialist leader Edi Rama, have launched a contemptuous, bullying, almost sexist campaign against influencers or VIPs who have come out in support of citizens, shifting the debate beyond the protest and towards public figures who are influencing public opinion.

The civic protest has gathered thousands of citizens in Tirana. In addition to the participation on the ground, the protest has received a great response on social networks, where a considerable number of influencers and well-known personalities have publicly expressed their support.

This support has worried Rama and the Socialists, who have focused criticism not only on the protest participants, but also on influencers, bloggers, and public figures who have openly come out in support of it.

Influencers targeted by Rama

The first was Rama, who attacked influencers during a meeting in Elbasan on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Socialist Party, making strange facial expressions and gestures about the way they pose in photos, stating that they cannot talk about corruption, bloggers who do not pay any taxes to the state.

"These people show us corruption. The bloggers who leave no money uncollected by showing all parts of their bodies, which I showed for free when I was young, and who do not give 1 euro in tax to the state, show us corruption," Rama declared.

The attack continued with sexist comments, when the prime minister, already worried by the protests demanding his resignation, targeted an influencer who, according to him, published photos from Paris and then demanded that the Albanian coast remain untouched. Rama went so far as to mention the "small tie" of the bikini, adding: "Inshallah the tie will break."

Zegjineja insults and insults the influencer

The denigrating campaign launched against influencers, bloggers, and celebrities who have supported the civic protest demanding Rama's resignation from the post of prime minister has continued with the 'meme' MP. The famous Zegjineja from Roskovec, known for her videos, allegedly ironic towards her rival in the May 11 elections, Gazment Bardhi, has targeted the well-known influencer Dea Mishel Hoxha.

The influencer came out in support of the protesters, and criticized Rama for his irony towards the young protesters, an action that seems to have moved Zegjinena.

"Don't be ironic with us, when you have put Zeqine in the cabinet, who doesn't know how to count, doesn't know how to write Albanian without mistakes, doesn't even know how to use ChatGPT to get herself out of her own mess, because she doesn't even know how to say her name," Dea said in reaction.

The MP, who is paid with the taxes of the Albanian people, resorted to public insults and bullying against Dea Mishel. But, initially, the socialist was careful to address the influencer privately, saying: " If you make fun of me, you ugly person, it's the end of the world."

The virtual clash continued. The MP shared her diplomas with the argument that she had fought hard to have her education, while continuing to address the influencer with the terms "idiot", "evil", and "a disgrace to women".

Reuters is also to blame for Balla

Taulant Balla has also been a vocal critic of the protest. Overly patriotic towards the red and black flag, outraged by the reporting of the protest in foreign media, Balla has launched a lynch campaign not only against the protest participants, but also against the international media.

The first attack came with a photo posted on Facebook: a vehicle with Serbian license plates, according to Balla, bringing protesters to Zvërec.

"Here are those who "love" Albania more than us, they brought the protesters to Zvërnec. What about these cars with Serbian license plates and why should the Serbs be protesting for Zvërnec?!" Balla wrote.

The leader of the socialist group continued by targeting foreign media, such as Reuters, which broadcast the citizens' protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office 'live'. Balla, outraged by the reporting, asked Reuters to be more careful, as according to him the footage had focused only on a plan that made the protest seem massive. The socialist went further, accusing the international news agency of not having Albania's concerns, but other interests that he did not even hint at, let alone cite.

"How could a small country like ours become global news? How could a local protest, which today has less than two thousand participants, be an international spectacle that makes Reuters broadcast it live? These people with the "professional" commitment not to move the plan left or right, because that's where the presence of the participants ends. Then look at the title that is placed, to understand that they have no sympathy for Zvërnec, nor for Albania, for these "actors" participating in this meaningless theater, no, no. They have another problem. NO COMMENT" , writes Taulant Balla.
