A few years ago, an article of mine in the MAPO newspaper served as a critical echo of a meeting between the then US Ambassador Alexander Arvizu and the PDIU Rescue Idrizi, as an attempt to create, in my opinion, a 'simulated opposition'. A few weeks after writing we accidentally exchanged with Mr. Arvizu in an environment of the capital, and after some jokes, I said “as you said yourself, Mr. "Ambassador, let me agree not to agree."
Many years have passed since then, and Alex Arvizu and I are still friends today. A lot has changed for both, but not the idea of "agreeing to disagree". I can not even agree with the second successor in a row of Arvizu, Mrs. Kim who is constantly looking for a 'simulated opposition'. By this, you mean a band in the Democratic Party, which clearly does not reflect or represent the majority, to which spaces, facilities, and illusions are created where it can hang the idea that it is the main factor in the opposition or the 'real opposition. At least that is accepted by the Americans.
History tells us that this is not the first time that the ruling parties, with American participation, have tried to forge new oppositions, which are the guarantors of a pax politicae that can pacify the local political theater, but say the political process as such, fades the race, distorts competition, and creates weak institutions worthy of a republican banana.
Both Berisha in power in the period 1992-1996 and the Socialists afterward, in the period 1997-2004, have made every effort to establish factions or parties in opposition, giving them the form of 'real oppositions'. with which important national pacts can be negotiated, discussed, and made.
All efforts, in one form or another, have received a helping hand from the Americans. All in different ways have gone the same way: in failure. The Democratic Party has been particularly violated in its internal processes. The old attempt to oust Sali Berisha has paradoxically produced even more Sali Berisha. Starting from the motionists, who became PAD in the early '90s, to Eduard Selami a few years later, Genc Pollo even a little further, and to come to the most famous, in banality, of the' simulated oppositions', that of the years 2019-2021, all have had different lives and deeds, but the same end. They have neither managed to rise to the role of opposition themselves nor to destroy the opposition from which they emerged. International investment in the so-called 'new opposition' has been maximal and grotesque. Photo ops to accompany the campaign, meetings, and statements of support, all designed to help 'true opposition, those of consensus, patriotism, etc., etc.,' have done the opposite: They have thrown them even deeper into politics. Deputies of the 'new opposition, yesterday's allies of the government and the international will be remembered only for the immortal sound bytes, serial memes, and nothing more. But their shame is not left to them alone.
The same thing is happening to a much better group of Democratic Party deputies. Although with ranks, professions, trained in the craft of politics, several seats in the pocket, and so on, they have returned to the new 'Kërpërat' of the government and the international.
Now, as long as they are in the spotlight you will enjoy it all, but it will not take long and the end of it all will come. Which, according to the lessons of modern history at least, will be the same as other "Kërpëratat" of the opposition.
But even shame always arrives. He is slower, but when he comes he stays even longer. At least from the political literature it never disappears.
In the end, as a reminder, the only lucky "American opposition" was that of 1991-1992.
