The touching reason why Neci Williams cried at the "World Cup"
Neco Williams has revealed he played in Wales' World Cup opener against the USA after learning his grandfather had died. The 21-year-old Nottingham Forest defender broke down in tears after the match at the Al Rayyan Stadium in Doha, Qatar, which ended 1-1.
He said that just 24 hours before kick-off, his mother called him to tell him "the hardest news I've ever had".
"Coming from crying and in pain all day to start a World Cup game was extremely difficult, but I got through it with the support of my teammates and family," he tweeted. So I dedicate that game and an important point to him."
He later wrote on Instagram: “Yesterday was the hardest news I have ever had to deal with and that was hearing my mum tell me my grandpa passed away last night. He has been all over the world to watch me play football since I started playing for Liverpool at the age of 6. He never told me if I had a good game because he always said I have to get better and better every day and that's why I'm where I am now! So I dedicate this game all to him because I know he's up there watching me with so much pride."
