Pop star Liam Payne's body has been released to his family to be flown back to the UK, the public prosecutor in charge of his case has confirmed to the BBC.
His body was held in Argentina while local authorities completed further toxicology and laboratory tests. Payne's body was released to his family on Wednesday, public prosecutor Andrés Madrea told the BBC.
Argentina's Public Prosecutor's Office said it is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
Two weeks ago, the luxury Argentinian hotel where Payne died was raided by police, who reportedly took a number of items, including discs and footage from security cameras. An autopsy report found Payne died from a number of injuries, including internal and external bleeding caused by the fall.
In addition, investigators reportedly found a number of illegal substances in his body at the time of death, including a recreational drug called "pink cocaine," a mixture of substances that often contains ketamine combined with MDMA, methamphetamine, cocaine, opioids and/or psychoactive substances.
Liam Payne was one of the most recognizable names in pop, having reached the height of fame with the band One Direction in the 2010s. A co-writer of many of their hits, he also achieved solo success with songs such as "Strip That Down" and "Bedroom Floor".
