US Ambassador in Belgrade: Serbia is arming itself, not just buying planes
The ambassador of the United States of America in Belgrade, Christopher Hill, has commented on the purchase of French fighter jets from Serbia.
In a statement distributed by the media in Macedonia, Hill noted that Serbia is not just buying planes, but is also strengthening relations with the NATO air force.
" I think that Serbia is making important strategic decisions. The purchase of 'Rafale' aircraft is only a part of it. This action shows Serbia's commitment to strengthening ties with NATO, and this is of great importance," said Ambassador Hill.
He also emphasized that these developments are not directly related to the situation in Kosovo, but they do not exclude the need to address issues on the ground.
Hill underlined that the recent visits of French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Serbia show a clear change in Belgrade's approach and Serbia's support in its strategic choices.
"We are not here to dictate to Serbia what to do, but we see that its decisions are going in the right direction ," the American diplomat added.
Meanwhile, the West continues to hope for a change in Serbia's attitude regarding relations with Kosovo.
