The issue of Beler, Greece does not withdraw from the veto imposed on Albania

Defense Minister Nikos Dendias delivered a message to Albania on Wednesday, urging the country to respect European Union standards and regulations as it moves towards EU membership.

Dendias delivered the message from the northern city of Ioannina, Epirus, where he represented the Greek government during commemorative demonstrations for the 111th anniversary of Ioannina's liberation from Ottoman rule.

In his statement, Dendias emphasized Greece's unwavering support for the European perspective of the Western Balkans.

He specifically addressed Albania, saying: "I also refer to neighboring Albania, which must always be in line with the European acquis in its effort to join the European family."

Dendia has been referred precisely to the case of Fredi Beler, since Athens has repeatedly repeated calls to allow his swearing-in as the elected mayor of Himara Municipality.
